Considering a Rabbit from Hot Cross Buns?
Welcome — we're glad you’re here.
Hot Cross Buns is a small, home-based rabbitry shaped by years of living closely with rabbits, watching them grow, learning their personalities, and making thoughtful, long-term decisions for their wellbeing.
We do not breed often, and we do not place casually. Every rabbit here is known by name and temperament. When a rabbit leaves, it matters deeply to us where they are going and how they will be cared for.
If you are considering adding a rabbit to your home, this page is here to help you understand how we work and what that process looks like. If you are still learning what daily care looks like, our Rabbit Care & Guidance page is a helpful place to start.
If you have a specific question after reviewing the information here, you’re welcome to reach out by email at HCBHollands@gmail.com.
How We Raise & Place Our Rabbits
Our rabbits are raised as indoor companions and are placed as family pets. We do not place rabbits for outdoor or hutch-only living.
We believe rabbits do best when they are:
• Part of the daily life of the home
• Spayed or neutered for long-term health and stability
• Matched thoughtfully based on temperament and compatibility
• Placed with long-term commitment in mind
We are not first-come, first-served. We take time to consider each home and each rabbit so that the match is a good one for both.
Babies & Adult Rabbits
Every rabbit here is raised and placed with the same level of care, whether baby, junior, or adult.
Many families are naturally drawn to babies, and when available, they are introduced on the Available Buns page.
We also occasionally have older rabbits seeking homes. Adult rabbits can make deeply rewarding companions. Their personalities are already established, and many are already spayed or neutered, which allows families to move forward with clarity.
Rather than focusing on age alone, we encourage families to consider temperament, lifestyle, and long-term fit.
What We Ask of Our Families
Families who work well with us are generally prepared to:
• Keep their rabbit indoors as a companion
• Spay or neuter their rabbit if not already altered
• Learn about proper diet, housing, and veterinary care
• Travel to Oberlin, Ohio for placement
You do not need to have everything perfectly figured out, but a willingness to learn and follow through is essential.
Placement Fees
Placement fees reflect age and spay/neuter status and are consistent regardless of color or markings.
Unaltered junior rabbits (2–6 months): $350
Neutered bucks (up to ~4 years): $400
Spayed does (up to ~4 years): $450
We place rabbits up to approximately four years of age. Beyond that stage, rabbits remain with us as permanent residents.
Policies & Agreements
We believe in clarity and shared responsibility. Our Placement Policy and Companion Rabbit Agreement outline expectations so families can make informed decisions before moving forward.
We encourage you to review these documents before submitting a Placement Form.
Timing & Readiness
This process is designed for families who are prepared and ready to welcome a rabbit in the near future, typically within the next 1–8 weeks.
Next Step: Placement Form
If you feel ready to move forward, the next step is to complete the Placement Form.
This form is intended for families who are prepared to welcome a rabbit within the next 1–8 weeks and are open to continuing the conversation as we work toward a good match.
It is a starting point and helps us understand your home, your expectations, and how we can best guide you in the process.
Submitting the form does not obligate you, and it does not guarantee placement—but it does begin a more active conversation.
We look forward to getting to know you.
