This beautiful frosty doe is a darling bundle of fluff and love. She has an incredibly sweet disposition, loves to cuddle, and spend time in gentle play. When she explores, she never wanders too far from her trusted person. She is mildly inquisitive and seems to be happy with anyone who has time to give her a quiet cuddle.
While this litter was being born, Sand Dollar's mama Penelope had two stillborn babies, whom she couldn't awaken, no matter how much she licked and groomed them. Because of this, she "over-groomed" Sand Dollar and accidentally nibbled off a toe or two from her front left paw. We watched her carefully for signs of distress or infection, but her wee foot healed on its own. Due to the missing toes, Dolly (Sand Dollar's nickname) can be a bit off-balance on slick or slippery surfaces and prefers a surface she can grip, such as a blanket, towel, rug, or carpeting when she plays and hops. We don't anticipate her having any health problems stemming from her foot injury. A little buck was born here many years ago with the same birth injury, and he went on to live a wonderful life as a breeding buck and, later, beloved pet buck after he retired.
Because Sand Dollar is a fuzzy Holland Lop, she will need to be placed with a person/family with plenty of time for her extra grooming needs. If not brushed regularly, mats tend to develop pretty much everywhere. The baby coat usually needs to be clipped off, as it has a different, more cottony texture that mats more easily. If daily brushing can be part of her routine, the longer, more luxurious coat may be manageable. The few fuzzy Hollands born and placed through Hot Cross Buns have gone to families who prefer to clip their coats into something resembling a puppy cut, which looks adorable on them. There are professional groomers out there who have bunny clients, but it's best to find one or know that you can learn to clip them yourself before committing to a fuzzy. Clipping will need to be done every 2-3 months, depending upon how much brushing time you can spend with them every day/week. Fuzzy Hollands always appreciate a shorter coat in the summer months, regardless.
If you are considering adding a fuzzy Holland Lop to your life, please spend a bit of time researching how to groom fuzzy Hollands and Angora rabbits, the best grooming tools to use, and tips and best practices for grooming rabbits. We can give some guidance, but it has been about 2.5 years since we've had a fuzzy baby, so our memories are a bit "fuzzy" on the finer points. ( LOL. I couldn't resist.)
As the Hot Cross Buns are raised to be pampered pets, we do require the signing of a Spay/Neuter Agreement as part of our placement paperwork. Please speak to your rabbit-knowledgeable vet to inquire about their services and fees.
All of the baby Buns go to their new homes with a bag full of goodies including: a packet of bunny care information, a small bag of transition food and hay, a snack baggie of old-fashioned raw oats for treats, a toy, and a fleece snuggle mat.
