Boggle is a beautiful girl and was the most out-going Bun in her litter before e. cuniculi slowed her down when she was just a wee baby of three weeks. She is on two different types of medication (a wormer and a bunny-safe antibiotic) and we're going to keep her at HCB until we know that she is going to do equally well when she comes off the medications.
You will notice that we have very few pictures of Boggle posted in her gallery below. At her worst, right after Christmas, Boggle could not stand and was very dizzy. (The second and third pictures below show her at this point). She wasn't to the point of rolling on her back, but she was pretty close to it. Thankfully, she has been improving little by little each day.
Any change in her environment caused her to become more physically unstable, so we curtailed taking photos until we knew she was on the mend and could regulate her balance again.
Boggle may always have a slight head tilt, but gentle neck massage seems to be helping her regain more of her range of motion. The vast majority of rabbits who are successfully treated immediately for e. cuniculi go on to live very full, happy, healthy lives. We anticipate nothing less for Boggle.
Here is a link to our blog post detailing some of our earlier experiences with treating e. cuniculi at HCB. https://hotcrossbuns.org/e-cuniculi-experiences-at-hot-cross-buns It has been quite a while since we had a case, so we've had to re-learn all the things we needed to do to give Boggle the best possibility of success.
A very sweet doe, Boggles continues to come to us readily for attention. She has a very soft blue coat and expressive blue-grey eyes. She has much love to give and so enjoys the attention and love she receives. Her littermates adore her and she loves them all in return. They have literally provided support and encouragement throughout her treatment by laying next to her so she could rest her head upon them as they cuddle together. Rosie has been especially devoted in caring for Boggle, by grooming her regularly and adjusting her position so Boggle could nurse successfully.
Boggle would do beautifully as a bonding Bun after she is spayed and has ample time to recuperate. A slow, gentle bonding process is always recommended.
Despite her illness, Boggle has remained very inquisitive and as outgoing as she can be, seeking love from any person willing to bestow time and attention upon her. She will want to be included in every aspect of her family's life, as she has a strong social butterfly streak. She enjoys other gentle animals, and isn't put off by a dog's barking for long. Her curiosity gets the better of her and she looks forward to making new friends.
Boggle would be great with gentle children, and longs for love, time, and attention from the special person/people who are willing to open their hearts and home to this special girl.
As the Hot Cross Buns are raised to be pampered pets, we do require the signing of a Spay/Neuter Agreement as part of our placement paperwork. Please speak to your rabbit-knowledgeable vet to inquire about their services and fees.
All of the baby Buns go to their new homes with a bag full of goodies including: a packet of bunny care information, a small bag of transition food and hay, a snack baggie of old-fashioned raw oats for treats, a toy, and a fleece snuggle mat.
UPDATE 1/20/25...Look at how amazing this little girl looks now! Her new pictures still don't do her justice, but you can see how straight her head and neck are now. Boggle is a beautiful little lovey!
