About Hot Cross Buns
What Sets Us Apart?
At Hot Cross Buns, we recognize that each rabbit has a unique temperament...just like a person. Some are shy, some are outgoing. Some like to snuggle in laps, some like to hang out close by. This one is very mellow, that one is very rambunctious. He is very nurturing, she is a mischievous clown. We have learned that, for a pet, the way your rabbit acts around you is far more important than how it looks.
Hot Cross Buns works very hard to match bunnies with their new families. We compare our clients' personalities and home lifestyle with the needs and temperaments of our bunnies. If we don't have any kits who will be a good fit, we will be honest and ask you to wait a bit longer. We want to place happy rabbits with happy, loving families. That is our goal.
Because we strive to be responsible about our breeding, we have our clients sign a Pet Rabbit Placement Contract outlining the standard of care by which we want our bunnies to live. We also require new families to sign a Spay/Neuter Agreement to ensure that all Hot Cross Buns placed as pets will be cared for responsibly, to ensure their long-term health and well-being.
We pour our hearts and time into our bunnies to give them the very best start. They live in extra-large, clean cage spaces with handmade fleece liners, litter box liners, resting mats, toys, organically grown hay, and fresh water. They are handled, loved on, and given lots of time to hop, play and explore in the safety of our home. We adore the Hot Cross Buns and we know you will, too!
What's with the name?
Our rabbitry name was chosen while we were all suggesting names for our first Holland Lop, Plum Bun. In our efforts to think of as many silly combinations as possible, Hot Cross Bun was suggested. When we decided to try our hand at breeding, we revisited our name list. Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops seemed to be the perfect name and it stuck. What other name could combine food, faith, and fancy at the same time?
While considering the origin of our name, we also couldn't help but notice the similarities between an edible hot cross bun and a Holland Lop hunkering down for a staring contest. (This handsome little guy was our beloved buck, Coconut Cream).
Are we raising cranky, ill-tempered rabbits, as our name suggests?
Absolutely not! Our Buns live indoors, in a temperature-controlled environment. They are warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. They are very pampered and coddled critters. Occasionally we witness a fit of temper, if not enough treats are given, when playtime ends, or when the nail clippers come out, but they are, generally speaking, a very content herd of beloved Buns.
Where are we located?

We are roughly 30 minutes west of Cleveland
90 minutes east of Toledo

The majority of our clients are from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, but we have had the joy of placing Buns with families from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
We can also claim to have had Buns residing in California and New Mexico, but they traveled to those locations when their families relocated. :)
